It Was A Moominous Thing!

It’s been very remiss of me to not update you on my trip to Moominland, or Finland as it’s better known.

The weather was kind, the country is quirky and the Moomins were magical.

We visited Moominworld in Naantali, stayed at the blissful Naantali Spa hotel, and I met my favourite, Moominmamma.

Then it was back to Helsinki for the 80th celebrations. A Eurovision-vibe mix of a short speech, a bit of a fanfare and singing and dancing from a local school accompanied by a mascot of some description 😁. In the outdoors, with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra practising in the background, is was a lovely little nod to the 80th anniversary of the first Moomin book The Great Flood.

Moomintroll looked resplendent in his Tove-esque flower headdress, and the small but exquisite Moomin museum is a delightful repository of all things Moomin. Original writings from Tove, photos that catch her at work, and a haven for those who want to immerse themselves in the quiet, reflective space that the Moomins have the ability to take you to.
